Wet rooms

Wet rooms are becoming more and more popular, and as the products available to create a wet room get better and better, so the option of installing a wet room, or ‘level floor’ shower enclosure is becoming more and more viable in a larger range of situations.

The term ‘wet room’ relates to the fact that there may be no enclosure round the showering area, and that the whole of the floor is water proof and has a drain, or drains, within it to take the water away. Wet rooms look great, however, in reality, are not always really practical, toilet rolls don’t fare particularly well in a truly wet room! This is where ‘level floor’ showering comes in. The floor still acts as a drain, but the shower is enclosed in a high quality glass enclosure, just as if there were a shower tray. This style of wet room is very popular, and very practical, especially if the users have special access requirements or are disabled in any way. We have installed many wet rooms as replacements for baths to enable older people to have easy access to the shower.

We have the technical know-how to ensure that any wet room design is the best for the given situation, taking into account the limitations of location and surrounding structure relevant to the wet room project in question. Often the existing floor structure is the limiting factor in achieving a wet room or level floor shower. We can usually ascertain the best options for you if we carry out a site survey.

Modern waterproofing and tanking products along with high tech tile adhesives and grouting ensure that wet rooms are truly watertight. There are many purpose made solutions for a wet room installation to take into account the various differing types of property construction. Under tile or under floor heating is also very popular to prevent the floor feeling cold at cooler times of the year, careful design and installation is important to ensure satisfactory operation of this type of system in a wet room.
